Party: The Catcalls, Hammersaw and Virginia Kathryn

Hammersaw, The Catcalls, & Virginia Kathryn
Doors at 8 p.m. | Music at 9 p.m.
$5 | 21+

Teaming up for a night of blues & bluegrass, $5 gets you three acts in downtown Lincoln.

HAMMERSAW:
“I figured that was a nice rowdy bluegrass name for a drunken blues project,” Haldeman said. Bluegrass is more of an overall sound with hints of other country genres intermixed with the music. With all the band members having different musical influences from metal or other genres like folk, they incorporate those sounds in their own music, like their song “Cecelia D.”
(Sabrina Broderick of Daily Nebraskan)

THE CATCALLS:
This Colorado blues/rock band is traveling through town as a stripped-down acoustic/electric blues/rock duo. The two frontwomen oscillate between sweet and sour, and they aren't afraid to get ornery. Their performance is marked by powerhouse vocals and fiery guitar solos. The Catcalls are currently working on recording their first E.P.

VIRGINIA KATHRYN:
Virginia Kathryn performs traditional folk and blues and stays active in the music community in a variety of ways. In 2016, she was selected as a participant for the Silkroad Ensemble's Global Musician Workshop, a project initiated by Yo-Yo Ma bringing together musicians from around the world to perform traditional music in innovative ways. She was also invited to speak and perform at TEDxUNO. There, she made a case for folk music as a medium through which contemporary stories can be told: turning back to our history to express the voice of our global community. She has also volunteered through Girls Rock Omaha as a guitar teacher and band coach at summer camp and their after-school program. Her sessions have focused on Musical Experimentation and Women in American Traditional Music, with a special emphasis on the female musicians who were instrumental in defining the archetypal American sounds. In 2018, she will be releasing her first album in collaboration with local and international artists.
