------------------------------------------------------------------------
sleepmakeswaves are an instrumental rock band from Sydney, Australia.
The band came together in late 2006 with a desire to write textured, dynamic and emotive songs combining delicate beauty with dramatic climaxes. After their 2007 demo ‘one day you will teach me to let go of my fears’ generated unexpected buzz, the band produced a further two EPs. Strong word of mouth and critical praise saw the band’s listener base grow worldwide, with over 50,000 people download their tracks online and airplay on triple j and the BBC.
This surprising response provided the catalyst for the fledgling band to think that perhaps, somewhere, people might be interested in hearing more.
Thus, in late 2011, the band released their debut studio album ‘…and so we destroyed everything’ through independent Australian label Bird’s Robe Records.
Since then, sleepmakeswaves have quickly evolved into one of Australia’s most exciting and innovative musical exports. Following tours with scene giants such as Karnivool, Cog, Underoath, 65daysofstatic, Opeth and Devin Townsend, the Sydney band’s unique instrumental epics and their energetic performances have seen them connect with a diverse and passionate audience of music fans.
Over the past six years, their busy schedule has included 11 Australian tours, 4 European tours, 2 North American tours, and 2 tours across Asia & New Zealand, with sold out shows across four continents.
Their second album ‘Love of Cartography’ hit #31 on the Australian ARIA Charts (#2 on the Independent Charts, behind Sia), saw ‘Something Like Avalanches’ and ‘Great Northern’ added to rotation on triple j and US college radio; and both their debut and second album received unprecedented nominations for an ARIA Award in 2012 and 2014 (Australia’s equivalent of the Grammy’s). Not bad for a band who doesn’t have a singer.
Now, the post-rock trailblazers have announced a massive start to 2017 with the news that their third album “Made of Breath only” will be released this April, followed by a world tour throughout 2017 and 2018.
---
‘Made of Breath only’ is the band’s most ambitious record to date. Following a period of intense touring, relationship challenges, illness and set against the scene of a world in upheaval, the record reflects the band’s experience of darker emotions, balanced by the unexpected and humbling reception to and joy brought from their musical experiences around the world, most of all the connections with fans and new friends.
Recorded with renowned producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Karnivool, Rage Against the Machine) in Byron Bay, the album features a progressive combination of sounds hinted at in lead single ‘Tundra’. The record at once captures the band’s push to challenge and evolve, whilst retaining all the melody and vibe they are known for.
Known for the passionate energy they bring to live instrumental rock, the band will take their epic and climactic live show on the road, with a seemingly endless array of shows that demonstrate their intense work ethic. Following on from their 55-date 22-country Great Northern tour of 2015 & their 54-date Traced in Constellations tour of 2016, the band will visit more cities than ever before.
On the cusp of their third album release, a world tour and with an epic new live show to boot, the ‘Made of Breath only’ tour promises to be one of sleepmakeswaves’ most memorable to date.
‘Made of Breath only’ is out this April through Bird’s Robe Records.
‘Love of Cartography’ is out now on Bird’s Robe Records.
