Party: RockSoc // AGM + clubnight

This week is a special one, because it's time for our Annual General Meeting (AGM). That means it's time to elect the committee for the next year! Additionally, this year we're going to vote on an updated constitution, because we're hoping to introduce a new position - Live Music Coordinator. We'll put a draft of the updated constitution up here as soon as we find the old one (or, failing that, as soon as we write a new one).

Doors open at 9.30pm, and the AGM starts at 10.30pm. For that first hour we will of course have one of our excellent DJ's to entertain us. *You need to be in before 10.30* because we can't let anyone in after we've started. This event is going to be members only, and unfortunately we will not be able to sell membership on the door. We expect the meeting to be done by 00.30, after which we will be able to let anyone in and we will have our usual amazing club night, whereupon the new committee will get utterly trashed,

These are the positions which we'll be electing on Thursday (and the person who held the position this year, in case you want to ask someone for more information about it):

President (Anna Rogan)
The one that's in charge. Basically the boss. The president makes sure that everything's running smoothly with the society and that everyone else in the committee knows what they're doing. President also chairs committee meetings and just generally tells everyone what to do.

Vice President (Katrina McCorry)
The one that's second-in-command. Vice President does all the stuff the president can't be bothered (or is too drunk) to do. Essentially just takes the work delegated to them by the president (it's a big job being in charge of you lot!). Also writes the emails.

Treasurer (Peder Stampe)
The one with the money. Treasurer keeps track of our accounts and makes sure we don't bankrupt the society.

Secretary (Harry Jones)
The one with the book. Secretary takes and uploads the minutes of committee meetings and keeps charge of the RockSoc book (it's got all our secret plans in it).

Publicity Officer (Emma Thompson)
The one that's good at Photoshop. The artist of the group. Publicity officer designs the posters, merch, banners, leaflets - anything we hand out to people really. If you're interested in this position it might be helpful to bring some of your artwork with you as an example (it's also been suggested by our current PO that a mock-up of a potential May Dip event poster would be very handy).

Events Co-Ordinator (Steph MacMillan)
The one we actually depend on. We can't have events without a venue! Events Co-Ordinator makes sure we have room bookings and that the rooms are all set for our club nights. You spend a lot of time speaking to union staff and ENTS. Vastly underappreciated position as if this job isn't done, we can't have events (and that would be very sad).

Webmaster (Dan Healey)
The one with the laptop. The Webmaster makes the Facebook events and keeps the website up to date (yes, we do have a website!).

DJ Officer (Lewis Deacon)
The one in charge of the music. We're a music society, we've got to have DJs, and those DJs need someone to tell them what they're doing. DJ Officer liases with our DJs, chooses who's DJing which events, and overviews their proposed setlists to keep our club nights the loudest and best in town.

Radio Officer (Brendan McDonald)
The one who graces the airwaves. Every week RockSoc has a show on STAR that requires a host. Are you good at talking? Do you like sharing music with people? This could be the position for you! Previous radio officers have done very different things with their shows so there's a lot of scope for creativity to make it your own!

Live Music Officer
The one in charge of live music. This is a shiny new committee position we're proposing for this year. Live officer will co-ordinate jam sessions (they've been a bit of a disaster this year) as well as liaising with bands to help set up live nights (also been a bit of a fail this year). Both of these are things which RockSoc has been desperate to do, but requires someone to get people and venues organised. We're really excited about this!

(Sub-honours rep will be elected in Autumn)

If you think you'd enjoy taking over any of those positions, turn up and run for them! You don't need any experience or fancy qualifications, you just need to make a speech explaining why people should vote for you. Or if you can't make the meeting you can run in absentia - just let someone on the current committee know in advance.

If you don't want to run for any positions, come along anyway. You can still make a difference to the society just by casting your vote. We need your help to make RockSoc the best it can be!
