Roger Edwards (picture included) will be giving a talk on the history of Ruthin Town FC at the club on Saturday 18th October.
The talk will be based on a book he has co-written on the history of Ruthin. It is the first properly researched book on the history of Ruthin for over a century. Roger and co-writers Arnold Hughes, Gareth Evans and Gwynne Morris have researched a period of history each and the book, which should be published in a few weeks, is entitled A History of Ruthin.
As part of his research Roger has come across a great deal of fascinating information on Ruthin Town FC. “As an ex player and long time supporter of the club this was of particular interest to me. I have some great stories to tell and pictures to show,” said Roger. “For example, we have unearthed a picture of a match v Denbigh Town where there must be 2,000 people around the pitch and some of the stories are amazing.”
Roger Edwards was the head of history at Brynhyfryd School for 15 years before becoming Deputy Head and then Head Teacher at the school. He played for Ruthin Town during his younger days and has maintained an interest in the club ever since.
Secretary Bryn Jones said, “I’ve talked to Roger about his talk and I’m convinced it will be of huge interest to anyone who has had any sort of connection with the club. He is extremely enthusiastic about what he has found and it’s great that he’s going to share it with us.”
The proceeding s will begin at around 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start with a short quiz before Roger’s discussion, which will take about three quarters of an hour to an hour. Everyone is welcome, there will be no charge and the bar will be open.
