OFFICIAL RONNIE RHUMBA WARNING - “You do not want to miss this one. Spread the word party people…. The Rhumba 24th Birthday Party is not an event you will want to miss”.
Rhumba 24 – Let the music take control….
I am sitting here in Rhumba Towers, writing this message with equal measures of excitement, butterfly inducing anticipation and quite frankly, staggering disbelief….
The Rhumba Club is just about to host our 24th Birthday Party…. 24 Years?…. Jesus on a Bicycle??
Twenty-Four very quick years.… For many, so much has changed over that crazy, hazy period…. Our dress sense – where have the baggy dungarees and skinny John Richmond tops gone…. Our dancing techniques – no one wants a big box, little box, long fish, short fish anymore…. Guy’s hair – it all seems to be slowly migrating south these days.… Social Media – talking through little screens to each other, really??.… And even how we now all listen to our music – 20 squillian songs on a little box smaller than a fag packet, which is also a phone, a TV, a camera, a game console and a portal to porn – wow!!
But we are delighted that some things certainly haven’t changed over those 24 years…. the Rhumba still lives and breathes with that undying acid house party spirit…. and we are still blessed with our fiercely loyal Balearic crew – young and old…. The Rhumbateers…. The best club following in the country. And, most importantly…. All of our lives are enriched with the sheer quality of electronic music that we all love dearly.
So, we decided that for Rhumba 24, we would be going back to basics, and it is all going to be all about the music. House Music underpins everything that the Rhumba has stood for, from the fantastic guest DJ’s who have played for us over the years, to the excellent residents who have supported us, to the amazing rrrCloud, where you can easily access all the original live mixes, from pretty much every legendary Rhumba party, since 1991…. who else has ever offered that!!
To ensure that the music really does take control, we have selected a team of DJ’s who truly epitomise the Rhumba, kindred spirits who have been with us from the start, who share our love of partying and most importantly, will deliver a musical fanfare to match the size of the night.
DJ’s at the controls will be:
Dave Seaman
Graeme Park
Slam
Steve Bicknell
Michael Kilkie
Zammo
Tom Simpson
But don’t take our word for it, this is what each of our chosen DJ’s had to say about Rhumba 24:
Dave Seaman
“I think I’ve attended more Rhumba birthdays than anybody else I know. Including my own!
Are you sure it’s only 24?? That can’t be right? I’m sure you’ve started lying about your age Ronnie!! That would make me almost old enough to be your Dad. And as we all know by my devastatingly youthful looks, that’s just not possible, is it?!
Anyway, it goes without saying that I simply can’t wait for another celebratory knees up Rhumba styleee.
See y’all on the 11th April, better start planning my outfit. See you on the dancefloor!”
Graeme Park
“The lure of the Rhumba Club. It's strong. Very strong. So much so that I'm back in April for the 24th birthday. Memories of October's Rhumba madness in Dundee are still fresh in my mind. Well, what's left of my mind. It was such a superb night with a wonderful, welcoming, up for it crowd and I had an absolute ball.
It was my first Rhumba appearance in a long, long time which is why I'm utterly thrilled to be back again so soon to party with my fellow Scottish Brothers and Sisters. This time it's at the Ice Factory in Perth.
Perth! It's been absolutely ages since I've played there and have very fond memories of a Rhumba club night in Perth in the 90s. Come on then Perth!, I canna wait to see you all in just a few weeks time for some more Rhumba Club fun and games.”
Slam
“The Rhumba Club is one of our favourite places to play in Scotland!
It is one of the few clubs that has maintained the true spirit of Acid House, and as regular guests throughout the years, Zammo, Wayne and Keith make sure it’s always a pleasure and most certainly never a chore.
Viva la Rhumba!!!!”
Steve Bicknell
“What can i say about the Rhumba, always a great party!!!!
It brings a smile to my face every time I'm asked to play, 24 years? it's only just beginning :)”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!! Now, hopefully those lovely words from Dave, Graeme, Slam and Steve have really got you in the mood for a Rhumba Birthday Party, so what else do you need to know ….
…. The fun begins in That Bar, with this excellent bar taking centre stage for pre-club festivities.
…. We are very excited to be returning to the Ice Factory in Perth – the scene of some of the best Rhumba parties ever hosted and a perfect location for this night.
….. Our lovely Rhumba Residents will be setting the mood, both in the Club and at the pre-parties – Zammo, Michael Kilkie, Tom Simpson, Nikki Flame, Alan Dobson & Darren Davies, and will be joined by Billy Morris, Scott Williams, Kev Green, Sister Swedge, Chris Mann, Mike McDonald, Jonny Kennedy and Dean Boogie.
….. We are delighted to announce that those lovely chaps from Groovement are going to join us on the night and deliver their cool house sounds in the Courtyard.
Rhumba Birthday Parties have always been very, very special occasions and we would be absolutely delighted if you would join us, Dave, Graeme, Slam, Steve and all the extended Rhumba Family to make this another 5-Star Night of Acid House Madness.… and create yet another chapter in the history books of Rhumbalore.
24 Year Party People, get involved and Let The Music Take Control….
