Party: SLED ISLAND

GUANTANAMO BAYWATCH

Guantanamo Baywatch is a filthy, fun and freaky beach party drenched in sludgy reverb, riding the waves out of a concrete garage. This do-it-yourself, lo-fi three-piece sounds like the Beach Boys after a three-week bender on the coast, ready to blast some chilled-out surfer punk.

PLASTICK

A brooding, punchy low end, dissonant guitar melodies and lo-fi, driving drum rhythms all accompany the haunting, angst-riddled lyrics. Channeling a goth-punk musical aesthetic, the sound is stylistic and polished while still man-aging to make you just a little bit uncomfortable.

BETRAYERS

Disaffected, teenage mutant schizoids have been roaming the planet for generations, but rarely do they find a leader like Ol’ Salty of Betrayers, who fronts with such urgency and edge that each show pushes one step closer to immortality. Shrouded in a wash of ‘60s-smooth guitars and amphetamine rhythms, you could be forgiven for assuming that this impossibly hip outfit prowls Bay Area back alleys rather than the slushy streets of the City of Champions. See you at Cherry Beach!

REAL SICKIES

“Once you get sick, there ain’t no gettin’ better,” states Real Sickies minimal Facebook description. Though the music is ballsy and has the simplistic raw edge of ‘70s punk rock, the band's production quality and overall delivery is extremely solid. The final product is absolutely infectious—medication be damned!

HIGH WASTED

Shimmy to the left, shake it to the right, everybody make out and feel alright! It’s the keys in their tunes that turn this into a glammed-up version of your favourite garage rock purists, but the fury and fun are ever-present. This is late-night, sweaty-dancin’, hand-holdin’ ‘til the sun comes up rock ‘n’ roll.
