ELDER
Having released one of 2015’s most universally beloved albums, we’re beyond delighted to welcome back Massachusetts’ ultimate progressive stoner rock trio Elder to blow minds and melt faces at Desertfest 2016.
Formed in 2006, Elder released their debut self-titled album in 2008 and while the stoner riffs contained within clearly signaled a band in love with Black Sabbath, Sleep and Church of Misery, one could hardly imagine the leaps and bounds the band would take on the two successive albums. If 2011’s ‘Dead Roots Stirring’ hinted at a band beginning to spread their wings, then ‘Lore’ is Elder in full flight, infusing stoner rock with a progressive element only hinted at before. Crisper and heavier than ever, Elder entered new sonic territory that breathed life into the stoner genre in 2015, with intricate and emotive guitar parts giving way to monumental riff worship and memorable vocal melodies.
